Sin is against God. Psalm 5v4; 51v4; Genesis 39v9(b). Sin is disobeying God's commands. 1 John 3v4; James 2v10; 4v17; Exodus 20v3-17; "all unrighteousness is sin"1 John 5v17 Sin is falling short of God's standard of absolute perfection. Romans 3v23. Sin is universal - we all have sinned. Isaiah 53v6; Romans 3v10+23; 5v12; "for there is no man that sinneth not" 1 Kings 8v46. Sin separates us from God. Isaiah 59v1+2. Sin is punished by death. Romans 6v23; "the soul that sinneth it shall die" Ezekiel 18v4; (cp. eternal death Revelation 20v14+15; 21v8). We are sinners by nature and by practice. Jeremiah 17v9; Matthew 5v19; John 3v19(b); Ephesians 2v3. We sin because we are sinners. |
